Default Ammo for thought

Federal has a Law Enforcement proven 90-grain Hydra-Shok delivering 200foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle. Corbon's JHP speeds out of the barrel at nearly 1100 feet per second. Hornady's newest critical defense loads ensures uniform expansion with a flex-polymer-filled cavity that resists deforming due to clothing materials worn by an assailant.

I carry an AMT S/A Backup in .380, and after reviewing penetration stats, don't carry anything other than 95gr FMJ. My take on it is that you have to get to the giblets to make it count, and I don't have confidence that HP's are going to do the job. Not dissing the Hornady's, as that's what I carry in 9mm, and there again based on looking at the stats. With a 2" barrel, I'll start keyholing at about 35' with the .380, which takes any benefit from an HP round out of the equation at a relatively short range. In closer, first one to the medulla oblongata wins.

Default Federal Hydra-Shock

I have been searching for the `Critical Defense' 380 Hornady for quite some time with no luck. I do have some on back order though. Generally, they are now considered the best defense factory ammo on the market.
In the past, I have used `Hydra-Shock' ammo with very good results and never a malfunction in any auto pistol of mine.

+1 on the Speer Gold Dots, also you might want to consider Buffalo Bore 95 gr hp +p.
