My son was a Park Ranger here in Wyoming for a several years. He swears by the pepper spray. Had to use it on Grizzlies several times.

I think they need to blitz more on second down, but other than that they do a decent job.

Seriously, avoidance is your best bet. A bang stick might work, but do you really want to get that close?

Since this is a gun forum, my recommendation for gator repellent is CCI shotshells in a .38/.357 revolver.

Would that even penetrate it's 'armor'? I have never touched an aligator, so this is a for real question?

Acording to the report i read, Tim DID NOT have spray on that fatal encounter, although he had regularly carried it previously.

The stuff is proven, and it works. I've used "police strength" pepper spray on "pukes" and never had a failure. The Bear spray, as issued by the NPS is at least 10X stronger.

It might upset it, but it isn't going to hurt it. Don't believe the BS.

I also work for the Dept of Fish and Game, and wildlife conservation group, and there are many documented cases where the spray either is inefective, didn't get the charging bear in the facial area, and the attacker ended up being mauled. Just as with guns, every situation is different. That is also why they issue us shotguns with slugs too

What we are taught, is if a large bear is coming at you at full speed, just his mass alone will get him on you before the spray does it's thing. They charge at you with teeth, and claws leading the way and if the pepper spray does its work, you will still come out with a missing scalp or worse. They can kill you with one swipe of its claw. I will trust to my shotgun and 44 before I put my faith fully into a condiment.
