The Buckmark or any of the MK pistols of Ruger are the only semi auto 22's I"ll have. Of the two the Browning has a better trigger usually but right now my fav is (was) a Ruger 22/45 that I replaced the receiver/barrel with a 9.5" Pac-Lite from Tactical Solutions. It's a dang tack driver now.

Any of the S&W's, or an H&R 929. The H&R is CHEAP and very accurate.

Back to semis, I have both the GSG M1911 and a Browning Buckmark and like them both. I got my GSG for $295 locally and so far it's a great shooter. As mentioned before, the Buckmark will eat any ammo you feed it. The GSG is only a little picky, a few hiccups with bargain bulk pack stuff, but good to go with CCI Blazer or minimag.

Can't go wrong with either of these.

I tried looking into the H&R 929, their website doesn't list revolvers that I saw. . .does anyone know if these are out of production, or am I just being a dummy and missing something?

H&R 1871
They have been out of production for many years, but are all over the used market. Look on GB and they usually have several listed.

If you can bite the bullet and spring for a S&W 617 you wont be sorry.


If you get a Ruger MK III get an Ultimate Clip Loader for it it will reload a Ruger mag in about 3 seconds also on Amazon.com-Search for the Ultimate Clip Loader. The Ultimate clip loader will keep those two factory mags top off, bring a brick of ammo!


If you get a Smith & Wesson Model 617 10 shot 22 revolver get a speedloader from Speed Beez I found mine at Amazon.com I think they have a website at speedbeez.com get the largest loading block you can afford your be glad you did. I recommend one Speed Bee a loading block and a brick of ammo it will put a grin on you from ear to ear.

I have several .22 handguns including a Walther P22. What I like about the P22 and the main reason I bought it is that it looks, feels and operates like other self defense pistols I own so it is a neat way to practice drills or teach newer shooters how to shoot defensively without much recoil or $$$ being a factor. Once they have their lessons solid on the P22 I can move them on to other SD handguns with ease.

But if you are looking for a target gun the P22 is not your gun. Ruger, S&W and Browning all outshoot most P22 easily. The P22 is definitely minute of bunny and a pleasure to carry in the field all day long.
