.22 LR pistol recommendations?
 

Yes, it does have to be a .22

I'm thinking a Walther P22. . .I don't really know much about comparing .22s, though, and it's hard to find info about these guns in my experience, most reviewers and the like don't seem to bother with this caliber outside of rifles. . .

You'll see a lot of bad reports about the P22 (as well as the Sig Mosquito). I may just be lucky but I have one of each that is reliable and fun. This being said, they are not target quality guns by any stretch of the imagination. They both feel somewhat like toys as they are very light and kind of small. For a "real" .22 pistol that does not look like a .22 pistol, I highly recommend a Sig classic series .22 - which are available in the P220, P226, & P229 sizes.

If you go this route, you can also buy the appropriate centerfire kit and have 2 guns in one...

Ditto on that recommendation--my SIG P220 in .22 is a great performer.

I loved my P22 for a fun plinker. Traded it to a friend. But my son and two of my friends still have theirs and they are all GTG.

For accuracy, try a Buckmark, Ruger, or High Standard.

i had a P22 but found it was too small for my hand so i sold it
i put about 1,000 rounds of CCI mini mag thru it and never had a problem
i had a ruger a long time ago and sold it because i didn't like the design/looks

now i am without a 22 and if i had the $$$ i would get the sig 226
i am also interested in the two 1911's that come in 22lr from CHIPPA ($300) or the new GSG 1911 german sports gun ($370)- i have held both and the GSG is same weight of a real 1911 - i really like this one

you didn't mention what you intend to do with your new 22lr pistol - have you also considered the S&W 617 DA revolver or the Ruger Single Six for SA western style

Buy a Ruger .22/45 in stainless with a 5 1/2" bull barrel. It will be the best shooting pistol you'll ever own. Don't bother to thank me, just remember me in your will.

If I were in the market for a semi .22, I'd probably be looking at a Browning or Ruger. I'd recommend my Smith 17 in a heartbeat however. I can't say enough good things about it. Accurate, eats all .22 without a hiccup, easy to shoot

Ruger Mk III, hands down. If you're looking for something in the P22's price bracket, the Beretta U22 Neos is the best of the polymer-frame .22's.

I didn't care for the Walther, and the two I have shot were very malfunction-prone.

Another Ruger Mk III fan. Got a new one about a year ago, $250, shoots like a carbine, eats any 22 LR I stuff in the mag. Some folks complain about re-assembling one stripped for cleaning- once you learn the technique, takes 90 seconds.
