Hi guys and gals! I'm looking to get some opinions on what (or which) gun(s) to buy for 1K. I sold my Glock 26 gen 3 and my Glock 19 gen2 for $1000. My original plan was to buy an updated Glock 19 gen 4 and a cheapo RIA GI 1911 with the cash. Now that I have it in my hands, I'm wondering if I'd be better off buying one handgun with the money or two different ones? One of the handguns needs to be a concealable high capacity 9mm like the Glock 19 as that is my daily carry. sig 229? Others? Just want some feedback.

I have no experience with either gun,
I suggest you find a range that rents and try them all.
I prefer my genuine Colt 1911A1.
Good Luck with your choice.

A suggestion - Springfield XDM 9mm. Striker fired (like GLOCK), 19+1 capacity, 4.5" barrel (compact is 3.8"), runs between $600 and $650, comes with goodies such as holster, magazine holder, two extra magazines (I am pretty sure as the magazine holder holds two), a couple of back-strap options for grip thickness, and I find them far more comfortable than GLOCK.

RIA 1911s are, in my experience with them fine firearms.

The particular GLOCK you are contemplating I have no knowledge of so I won't comment on it.

These are just my thoughts. As with any firearm; get one in your hands and feel it out. If possible rent and shoot one. The right gun is the one that you can operate best. Hope this was at least a bit helpful.

If I were buying a 1911 with the cash, I'd go Colt Series 70
If I were buying a carry gun, an M&P shield or SA XDs.

Two guns is better than one. You could get an M&P9c. The flush mag holds 12 and you can use the regular size mags in it, which holds 17 if I'm not mistaken. The second gun could be a 22 just for general plinking and fun. There's actually an M&P 22. So you could use it as a trainer.

Don't think you have to spend 1k just to get a nice gun. My M&P9c was right around $600 brand new. A used one would be even better.

I kinda like your RIA idea. I've been thinking about getting one. I've heard they're very reliable 1911s and good for an entry level piece.

Standard answer - try a bunch out in your hand and rent as much as you can.

I'd buy an m&p, trigger job, night sights, holster(s), extra mags, and the rest on ammo

You need to shoot the 229 before you buy it. Pay close attention to the trigger pull. It's not like your Glocks.

The Glock 19 is an awesome carry gun if you like plastic guns. It is their top selling model I believe. I have shot several and like them but in general I prefer steel and wood guns. The RIA 1911's are great guns for the money. If you get one I would get the enhanced models with the better sights, beaver tail etc.... They are only a few dollars more and more enjoyable to shoot. I own 3 RIA guns and am well pleased with them.
