185 grain 45 acp?

I just picked up 1000 rounds Federal 45 ACP 185 grn. Hi-Shok JHP and ran a box through my Para-P10 and my PT1911 without any issues whatever. It seems to be accurate and it appears to smack my swinging metal target with authority! I have generally always used 230 grn. and my question is what is the general consensus of 185 grn 45 ACP?

185 grain has a light under penetration problem as compared to the 230 gr

Tnoutdoors9 has done some interesting youtube videos regarding bullet performance with different calibers and loads, including several using the 45 acp. You may like to check him out on youtube

It moves the 45 from the 19th century into the 21st century!!!;)

That is what I am reloading in both lead and jacketed SWC for my 1911. Cuts way down on recoil and when I get back to shooting Bulleye will make that final 5-in-10 run more manageable. I love that bullet for range use and the lead bullets are cheaper that the usual 230gr for 500 box.

185 JHP is my load for the .45.

Hits harder and penetrates adequately.

I happen to like the 185 gr +p. They get more penetration than the 230gr and they are more accurate at longer distances. A few years ago that was a major option to the 230 gr. now its harder to find. I used to be able to go to wally world, before the big ammo scare, and get 185gr in 560 round boxes for $18 a box. Then I sold my 1911. When I got a Glock 21 back in Sept. I went looking for the 185 gr ammo and was not able to find them in 50 round boxes, anywhere, only 20 round boxes for $20. Wish I could find them now for anything

Don't want to get hit with one.
