10mm: Semi-Auto or Revolver?

Would you get a Semi-Auto like a S&W 1006/1076 or a Revolver like the S&W model 310?

Is there an advantage/disadvantage? What about the felt recoil of one over the other?

This begs the input from Robo. You need his expert experience in this realm if you REALLY want to know.

Why buy a revolver to get a 10mm? It's an auto-pistol cartridge. I've seen a few renditions of it, the EAA Witness Compact was very appealing to handle but failed catastrophically in 100 rounds. The S&W is robust, but a trifle large for most carry. The 1911 platform seems the most pleasing to me. I've shot 3, all Colt's, and find them to be a good compromise of power and portability. I'm sorely tempted right now by a Kimber 10mm on Alaskaslist, but I'm own a few 1911 .45s and 2 .44 mags and can't quite justify the inbetweener to my self. However, if I wasn't invested into the calibers and reloading stuff I am, I would probably go with a 10mm 1911 as my primary carry pistol.

Do you eat fish at a steak house? How about eating steak at a fish house? While it can be done, IT IS JUST NOT RIGHT.

IMO a semi auto round works best in a semi auto pistol. I have the DW C-Bob in 10mm, and I used to have a Colt DE. Love both.

Why a 10mm in a revolver? Why a .45 ACP in a revolver?

IMHO the 10mm is best in a semi-auto pistol just as a .45 is best in a semi-auto pistol. WTS, I would like a S&W 610 to augment my 1006.

The 610 is a novelty, but a fun one!

Whichever you get buy all the rounds you can when you see them. I thought about a 10 until I realized no one carries the ammo. I have never seen any at Wallyworld, or at Gander Mountain. Here in Central Florida the ranges don't carry much.

If you go with a 1911, get one with a ramped barrel. They seem to hold up better than the standard barrel and link system.

It is a very cool round, though.

Average fodder in the stores for 10mm is not much better than a 40 S&W. You need to hand load to make it shine. I've had mine for 15+ years and love it.
The weak point is the barrel bushing, they crack after about 1200 rounds.
Mine is a 1911 AO.

Revolver will always have more felt recoil than a pistol with any one given round.I would rather get a .44mag and be able to shoot .44 mags or .44 specials in it.
