IMO, recoil buffers should not be used in any handgun used for self defense. I use a 20# in my C-BOB. Change the springs on a regular basis and maintain the handgun and it should last.

But, as with any other firearm purchase, buy the best quality piece you can afford.

S&W 1006 w/Sprinco recoil reducer. I believe the recoil spring is about 18#. The Sprinco has a captive secondary spring (think HK USP) that slows the slide for the last 1/2" or so of travel preventing battering of the frame. If I use subsonic ammo it will not lock the slide open after the last shot because the slide does not even reach the full stop position.

It is a large gun in an expensive caliber. If you are ok with those two things then you will be pleased with your Glock 20. The gun can handle the 10mm cartridge, and the cartridge is excellent for self defense.

Not a lot of 10mm rounds available either. Here in Central Florida only some of the gun shops have them. The only place I see them regularly is at the gun shows. Even then there is not a lot of the hollow point defense rounds available.

While some of the more major brands are back ordered, there is still quite a bit of good ammo available here:
