At Lake City, they have a spiel they tell everyone. Range rules and where the target stands are stored. Fast direct and to the point. If you are not familiar with gun / range lingo, it will catch you off guard. They use a two color (red /green) lane indicator that you are responsible for changing.
Over the PA system, they constantly bark orders. Like the previous poster mentioned, they will single you out and make sure you aren't doing any "un-safe".
I had shot my grouping, and was waiting for the range to clear - a younger guy arrived, got the spiel from the range master and went to find an open shooting lane. Well apparently he didn't listen very well to the spiel, as he started to un-case his rifle...they started in on him through the PA..., then he did something else they didn't like, another verbal assault from the RM. That guy couldn't do anything right in the range master eyes. They ended up belittling him then kicking him off the range. He didn't even fire a shot.
I kinda felt sorry for the guy. I thought the range master should have got off the PA and had a private conversation with him. Maybe explained the rules one more time. Or maybe the guy was a total dufus and had no business there. Not sure, but I know I really didn't enjoy my trip there. If i wanted to listen to a DS, then i would have stayed in the army. I do know I would rather drive an hour to another range then ten minutes to Lake City.
