heres a check list for those coming clueless. honesty is the best policy, so be informed and study.
i'll post more so when you get here, there wont be so many unknowns to deal with, and it will all sound familiar when you hear and see it during the welcome brief.
-----------------------

Dangers Involved With a Shotgun Range

Shells:
1. Double charges.
2. Under charges causing stuck wads.
3. Base hull separation, causing an obstructed bore.
4. Wrong gauge shell put in the wrong gauge gun.
5. Slow primer cook off's.

Guns:
1. Obstructed bores.
2. Semi autos or pumps loading a 2nd round into an obstructed bore.
3. Defective safety.
4. Faulty sear, (AD)
5. Loose breech lock up.
6. Gun explosions.

Targets:
1. Sharp flying objects can hit shooters, damage guns.
2. Potential cut hands if broken while handling.

Machines:
1. Moving machinery can amputate limbs, fingers, and lacerate body parts.
2. Potential electric shock if touched in wet environment.
3. Pushing the button while someone is loading the machine.

People & Habits:
1. Walking around with a loaded gun.
2. Leaning on the muzzle of a shotgun with a closed action.
3. Turning to talk to someone on station without keeping the gun pointed in a safe direction.
4. Picking up dropped shells or hulls during a game. (Hulls may go forward of the current loaded shooter.)
5. Smoking while shooting. Drop an ash while holding a loaded gun and you can start swinging your muzzle at people in a frenzy.
6. Loading guns off the range.
7. Carrying loaded guns from cars to the rack.
8. Carrying more than one gauge ammo in a pouch.

The Range:
1. Stepping in front of or looking in a trap house window, can force feed you a target.
3. Shooters getting shot by shooters from other fields when walking past the edge of a house.
4. Beginning a game while someone is loading the houses.
5. Stepping out of the trap bunker w/o first checking to see if someone has a gun leveled at them.
6. Unsupervised participants wandering on to a hot range.
7. Slippery ladders in skeet houses.
8. Hornets and wasps in the houses.

i had a family plan for a march shoot but never made it. they got as far as memphis and turned back when they saw rain was forecasted. if theyd went ahead and came and didnt bow out, they would have been able to shoot. it didnt rain all that much. and those that were scheduled to shoot that sunday took my advice anyway and came saturday and had a great time.

so why do i tell you this?

you have to be flexible and loosen your scheduling.

if someone bows out, i wont keep that squad time closed. so if you book 4pm, and no one shows for noon, i'll move everyone up if i need to.

this is why im telling you, if you can, come for more than one day. itll give you wiggle room for rainy days. im a vet, rain doesnt bother me. i clean my gun every shoot so rust doesnt scare me. wet guns get cleaned before steak dinners.
so if youre not afraid of rain...i'll teach in rain. but if its lightning....an extra day is seriously a good idea.

for those that are coming with 12 or 20ga, this is about the cheapest stuff out there. buy 3 of them per gun to have enough for the shoot. best place is at walmart. approx 24-25.00 a case. youll need 7 1/2 shot for trap games and 8's for skeet games. walmart doesnt seem to be out of shotgun shells. lucky us.

4. Look in the low house window.
5. Load more than one shell on the ata trap field without permission.
6. Load more than 2 shells on the skeet field.
7. Swing around and shoot behind yourself on station 8.
8. Walk off a shooting station with a loaded gun.
9. Walk off a shooting station with your breech closed.
10. Lean on your muzzle.
11. Take more than one shot at one target, (except on a sporting clays range.)
12. Throw extra targets without permission.
13. Drink alcohol. Do drugs.
14. Shoot a shell with shot larger than #6.
15. Smoke, litter, chew, or use a cell phone while shooting.
16. Knock someones gun over on the rack.
17. Shoot the house.

Estate 250 shell flats can be found for $60 and less. It's what I've been shooting lately, they've been good for me in my shotgun and 1911 (of course, with the corresponding ammo).

Isn't Estate like a "bargain bin" brand from federal?

yes. if you figure it out, if wally sells feds for 25 a 100 case, thats 5 each. or...50 a flat. 10 bucks cheaper than estates.

ok, we just had a donor offer top score at the meet, a free FTF membership upgrade as a prize!
as more vendors see the potential for hawking their wares at these meets, hopefully more shooters will make it worth the time to attend!
THANK YOU DONORS!

I know, I know... You're in like Flynn when the money's in hand...
You could consider me in there like swimwear (hellooooo.... I bought a shotgun just for this thing!!!) I'm just keeping a watchful eye on my money, balancing budgets (Hey! Obuttnuts! Wanna take a lesson?), paying bills, saving for a trip to Wyoming, making sure I can arrange transpo for my kid to visit his mom for the summer...

I guess I could've just gotten the ticket and borrowed a gun... But damn, this gun is perfect for me, and I needed a shotgun anyway.
