Actually, I would let someone look at it for me. I'm not experienced enough to know what I'd be looking for other than an obvious shell stuck in the chamber. But I would know to cease fire.

you need to know and be able to unload your gun. its part of proper firearms safety and ettiquette.
handing off a gun in question just passes the buck to the unsuspecting do gooder.
granted in our case at my range, odds are i'll be right there, but for those on other fields....i cant be running around doing things shooters should know how to do themselves. for this reason everyone will be shown how to check for an obstruction 5 oct.
and besides, its good training for if you all ever shoot somewhere else.

I am going to this event to learn. If you show me how to do it, I will be able to take care of myself. You have to remember......I know nothing about shotguns or shooting clays. I hope to be under everyone's watchful eyes.

you wont be the first one to be at my range with zero experience.
itll be just another walk in the park.
once you see how simple it all is, youll kick yourself for all the time you worried about your performance.
its why i enjoy shotgunning more than any other firearm sport.

In addition to our persistent requests for a Dislike button, I'm going to start lobbying for a Me Too button!!!

Carry only one gauge of ammo when shooting.

I would imagine so one doesn't load the wrong gauge into a shotgun?

That would be my guess. When your shooting like that, your not really paying attention to your ammo. This means that you could have just put a 20 ga, or 16 ga shell in your 12 ga shotgun. Not a good idea.
