I throw the pine cone up in the air and try to hit it with the stick. If I can hit it far enough, fast enough and accurately enough, I might hit one of the clays! (Frankly, if I could do that I'd deserve some kind of medal!)

Okay, the best I've been able to find is this...

In skeet shooting, the stations are set up based on a circle, originally based off of full a clock face until some chickens started catching lead (according to the story I found)... then it was cut to a semi circle with 7 stations at what would be the hour positions on a clock, of 12-6 o'clock, and an additional throwing position, for a total of one on either far end of the circle, throwing in opposing directions, with a low and high house, providing different angles all around, intended to replicate pretty much any shooting scenario that could be found in the field.

Trap appears to be the shooters standing abreast, with a throwing position out in front throwing forward.

okay, i can work with that. square boxes painted in a semi-circle.

so, on a trap field, there must be a line where you stand. how often is there a line on the sidewalk that is considered the station?

pass.
winds situation is unique.
she needs a gun that is semi auto to absorb recoil.
it needs to be a lop of 12".
it must be light...6lbs or less.
you dont go chopping 3-400 guns to get that.
so a cheaper used gun is the target.
problem....find one cheap!
the closest gun winds could possibly own is a youth 1100 20ga. but try to find a used 1100 for under 2-300.00. its gonna be a hunt for hens teeth.

honestly, the cheapest gun out there today in 20ga is a bolt action gun. but they can be crisp in the recoil area. guns are like shoes. you gotta try them on.....then, after you test drove it, you start making it personal.
this is the closest thing to what winds could use...but its a pump.
but the pad could come off for the 12" lop and it has chokes.

Why do you say "but it's a pump?" What's wrong with that?

Seriously, I'm not interested in buying a shotgun right now. But Trip, thanks for the nice gesture.

this is why i laugh at this crazy HD/riot tacticool gun craze going on. everyones falling in love with guns that inherently kick like mules! and make it worse to boot....they shoot slugs and buckshot out of them!

try to picture a 7mm bullet. small right? ever shoot a 7mm deer rifle? kicks, right?
okay...now picture a 9mm bullet.
how bout a 10mm?

but no!
its a 70mm slug of lead going out of a shotgun!
