MI CPL update - SB59
Once again, due to our own fighting, we may lose this battle.
Sheriff's wanted more money, even tho it's been a HUGE profit generator for the county clerks offices.
Hospital association complained that legally responsible people shouldn't be allowed to carry firearms.
Restaurant association thinks it would be much better for people to open carry than conceal carry, God knows how irresponsible CC firearm owners are.
And I save the best for last...
Some of our fellow firearm advocates would rather stop the bill that gains us some additional rights, because it did not go for ALL of our carry rights at one time. They actually carried more weight than any of the above.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE call your state senator and tell them you support SB59 WITHOUT the added amendments. The bill is on hold until after the Easter break, lets rally together and provide a UNITED front to our legislature!

I'm curious what kind of pressure we can put on the Hospital Association, who are these people?

They represent the interests of the Hospitals. You will get nowhere with them, you best opportunity is with your state senator. However, as I understand it, now the sheriff's are complaining. Some want more restrictions, some want less, most want more money. If this bill ever gets passed, it will be a mere shadow of it's former self.

Good news, its moving forward... bad news, it excludes and reduces our current OC in PFZ. Small gain none the less.

I personally would rather ba able to conseal carry in those places than have to OC. Gives less of a panic in schools and not having to remember to "show" your firearm when you go to those places.

I'm sure if I OCed in my daughters school, I'd be escorted out or to jail even though it is currently legal with my CPL so this bill is beneficial to me. The extra 8 hrs of training is a boon for CPL instructors.
I was chatting about another bill stalled in the senate that eliminates handgun registration and purchase permits. I was told that MSP and the governor are stalling it. Having been LEIN certified for 15 years, I can say I've never used the handgun registry for any meaningful purpose. Most guns used in crimes are illegal. The few times I did look up a gun, it was to find out which make or model a person may have (like a suicidal subject) but the fact the person was armed was already established. Other than that , I have looked up a pistol to get a serial number for a report and usually to enter it as stolen or lost.

The CADL appeals court decision really helped eliminate that possibility... But I understand your point. I just wish it wasn't one or the other, but I'll take the extra "tax" to conceal in a PFZ.
