I get it, my Mom lives with my sister and BIL.

There is no registration issues for firearms in Illinois, at least as of yet...
You do need a FOID.

First question, does either your Daughter and SIL have a FOID? If they do not
I strongly urge that they do since their will be firearms in the home, also your
wife should have one. In case the weird chance you are not home and your
guns are unless they are all locked in a safe an over zealous cop could
confiscate them. If they do have a FOID, things are better. You need a FOID
to possess, transport and purchase firearms or ammo. If you move in and
while you are waiting for your FOID your Daughter can possess the firearms
and you are legal. If you go shooting you have to have someone with a FOID
with you. You can shoot without a FOID but the FOID holder has to be with
you and in the "immediate vicinity" while you are shooting.

You're better off moving to Missouri. You'd still be close to O'Fallon without having to put up with the politics of Illinois. good luck

Everything you said is accurate, but there is a 90-120 day grace period for new residents to get their FOID. You have 30-60 days to get your DL and you have another 30-60 days from that point to get your FOID. I am not a lawyer.

Sometimes life intervenes and we are forced to make decisions we otherwise wouldn't.

I wish you the best of luck. From the above comments, it sounds like IL's crazy gun laws won't actually interfere too much in your lifestyle.

After you get the firearm thing figured out, you can get into trapping and fishing still. Seems most of that is still pretty good there.

you are so south of chicago that you will not really have to worry about most of the strict gun laws. chicago and their twisted politicians ruin the rest of the state.
