I lived in Illinois for 55 years, born there raised and worked there. I had no idea how backwards the gun laws were there until I moved here to southern Missouri. We're open carry here, and the CCW law is fairly recent to MO. I don't think I know anyone who doesn't own a gun and more than half of them carry. I was always worried about transporting my guns to and from the range that I was fanatical about loading the guns in the trunk, unloaded, with the ammo in a seperate container. I always heard the stories about gun confiscation and it worried me. Now I have my 686 on the seat when I go somewhere, no problem with the police or the neighbors for that matter. I beleived the hype about "bad" guns when I lived there....you can't get away from the bullsh@t. I take my CCW test this coming Saturday, expect to have my permit in a week or two. I truly feel bad for you guys up there. Hopefully the new law when passed will allow you the freedom you deserve for CCW and protection.

It sounds right, but you are wrong. Chicago is flooded with guns owned by criminals who do not have a FOID card and couldn't fill out the form to get one. The word you omitted is "legally". And trust me, any politician who is a gun banner will use every word you or I say against us.

OK, can someone in Illinois keep us updated on the status of HB0997? Last I heard it had passed the House, but the Senate is trying to amend it. Status?

997 is dead, they amended HB0183 and it passed the Senate and the House Friday.

Yes, but contrary to what many say, 183 is not a bad bill.. could it be better? Of course.. could it be worse? Hell yes.. at least it is shall issue and preempts homerule on handguns and transportation. And if you are active duty or prior service w/ honorable discharge or have taken the dnr hunter safety course you only need 8 of the 16 hours of training required.

No reciprocity, with one exception.

Quote:
Section 40. Non-resident license applications. Subsection (e) Nothing in this
Act shall prohibit a non-resident from transporting a concealed firearm
within his or her vehicle in Illinois, if the concealed firearm remains within
his or her vehicle and the non-resident:
(1) is not prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm under federal law;
(2) is eligible to carry a firearm in public under the laws of his or her
state or territory of residence; and
(3) is not in possession of a license under this Act. If the non-resident
leaves his or her vehicle unattended, he or she shall store the firearm
within a locked vehicle or locked container within the vehicle in
accordance with subsection (b) of Section 65 of this Act.
