When this court decision first came down, I said the "powers that be" wouldn't back off. Having lived in Chicago, I'm familiar with "The Machine." When has the law ever mattered to that crowd? They'll fight this right to the end, and even if they lose, they'll do whatever they want, daring the courts or the Fed to stop them, ( With Mr. Obama and Mr. Holder running things, good luck with that). Best of luck to all of you still in Illinois, but I wouldn't go rushing off to the LGS shopping for Glocks and IWB holsters just yet.

While I agree with the fact that they will do whatever they want, I truly believe the courts will uphold the law which means the pds would face punitive charges and law suits.. eventually they will stop

And I could care less what they try to do. When the law is put into effect I will obtain my ccw and I will carry

I dont think it will be passed with these amendments, as it has been expressed that the ones standing on the house floor fighting for our rights will not tolerate a bill that contains anything not 100% fair to us, as they have worked hard and been willing to compromise way more than what should be acceptable in the past. Now that it is a do or die situation, they will not compromise much at all
I like your optimism, and I agree 100% that the original HB0997 was a very fair and reasonable bill. As written it provided wide reciprocity, limited restrictions (no gun zones), pretty low fees and shall issue. I think I remember seeing a pre-emption clause as well, but I'm not sure about that one.

By the way, when they pass the original HB0997 (God, let it be without the amendments, amen) the law would allow you to carry in the liquor store to buy your beer. The law restricts carry into an establishment where liquor is consumed, not where it is merely sold. Further, if the establishment produces less than 50% of its income from liquor sales (like a restaurant), then there is no restriction against that establishment.

I had the pleasure of educating a local Oklahoma liquor store on that point, and HB0997 reads almost word for word with Oklahoma law. The liquor store owner was actually very appreciative since he was nervous about having to ask armed people to leave. I told him that most CCW people would just leave and not come back. He said that's what he was nervous about, not the fact that they were armed, but the fact that he'd lose business!

The antis are very very desparate on this right now; we pros just need to be
vigilant and stop them at every bad bill and bad amendment. We have the
court ruling and the votes on our side we do not need to compromise and
they know it.

Via email this morning...

Quote:
Springfield Report -
Message from NRA Lobbyist Todd Vandermyde, 3/20/2013:

Another day, another debate. Yesterday the house spent almost 3 hours
debating amendments to the carry bills.

A reworked magazine ban with a "grandfather" clause was filed. However,
you must register yourself and your magazines with the state police. The
State Police have unlimited rule making as to how to enforce is which could
mean fees and or anything else they want, like fingerprints.

Staff had indicated late Monday that the magazine ban would be part of the
special order on firearms on Tuesday. Your calls and our lobbying efforts
thwarted that as they did not call the ban for a second vote. We believe they
failed to call it because your calls are making the difference and they are still
short votes.

While leadership is attempting to twist arms to find votes, your calls and
emails are making the difference. Keep it up. We know that hearing that
there is an impending vote at any minute, gets to be frustrating only to
have the vote not take place. But such is the nature of the beast that we are
forced to deal with. Chicago politicians control the process and can move
things at a moment’s notice. All we can do is try to keep you, the members,
informed as to the latest happenings at the capitol.

The fact that they schedule the magazine ban for a vote then don't follow
through is a testament to your effectiveness and fact that you are among
the most dedicated Second Amendment supporters in the country. The fact
that you have held back the Chicago machine should be a badge of honor.

Keep it up and keep making those calls. Together we will prevail.
