I live in DeKalb County and though I agree once out of the City limits the laws are a little more tolerable that doesn't negate the fact the Chicago passes some of the laws that affect the whole state.

And I don't see it getting any better. The more Chicago is going to suffer socially (which is the logical outcome of businesses closing, people depending on government aid etc.), the more you'll see anti 2nd Amendment laws. Too many people are not ready for a 2nd Amendment right here and it's fueling the popularity of gun control. In some areas of the city, if they were granted their constitutional right they'd think they received a license to kill and you'd have increased gang activity. So you'd have to put a law to prevent certain areas/people from accessing firearms which would be considered racist. So instead they make gun ownership extremely inconvenient and expensive to prevent as many people as possible from owning a gun.
Without a society with strong morals, a real sense of responsibility and duty, the 2nd Amendment will always be limited. Cities like Chicago will never see CCW because it's a city with too many class differences (upper, middle, lower) and therefore too much "friction". The only way is to live in smaller communities to avoid socialism and one size fits all gun policies.

I was amazed when Quinn won by 2 counties, Brady would have been a huge improvement. I don't believe the latest statewide gun registration scheme will ever fly, but if it did ever pass this state would loose a lot of people. Hopefully sanity will prevail with downstate legislators who've managed to beat back yearly attempts at various AWB proposals. So Illinois is still better than a few states in that regard. The neighboring states love Illinois politicians since they keep chasing businesses out, as well as citizens. Now if you guys decide to leave the state where would you move? Texas is number one on my list.

I live a 1/4 mile NW of the gulag county border. Rahmbos registration plan has me boiling.
When I was a kid in the 50/60's my pop had his business in the Austin area of Chicago. As a kid I could walk any where without worry. Not any more, I would not want to get caught alone there now even if the neighborhood was still standing. I got a CCW permit
from Florida and as soon as I leave Illinois I carry. Went to Knob Creek shoot last fall, Kentucky is a different planet from Illinois. Hotel/Motel and Restaurant signs welcoming
machine gun shooters and a good % of the folks were packing heat. In Illinois we can only dream.

they want to generate funds by imposing these fees on law abiding citizens when they could pass CCW and accomplish a windfall of money through permits.

By the way only two counties in the whole state voted for our goobernor, Just happened to be the two that counted the most.
Then they went and e;elected Obama's right hand crook Emanuel for mayor of crapcago.

-To All Illinois Fire-Arms Owners-
If this House Bill passes and Emanuel gets his way, any Illinois resident that owns handguns and doesn't comply, they will become a Class 2 Felon. Actually that is a very common misconception, Texas is far from being the most pro-gun state and they have some tough laws too. I'm looking at Utah, I work in Information Technology and Salt Lake City is great for that. I'd personally consider South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado (away from Denver) and a few others. I wouldn't want to go all the way East or West, a bit left of the Midwest is where it's at.

Yeah, that is a misconception, we are not the most pro gun state (but we are way up there), that would be Arizona, Utah, and possibly Alaska.
For the most part, I don't notice any laws that infringe on my 2a rights (open carry would be nice though. That way you don't have to worry if you gun is showing). For the most part, I can walk into a gun shop, and walk out with any gun I want (nfa takes a little more work though).
There is NO waiting period, no licences required to buy a gun, and no gun registration. As far as I know, there is no ban on any gun. If you want an ak-47 with a drum mag, go for it. We also have Castle Doctrine that covers the home, and the land around it.
I would like to see them allow Constitutional carry, open carry, and ban many of the no gun zones though.

I totally disagree with you. The areas of the city that you mention as having issues have guns everywhere right now. Having LEGAL citizens have guns isn't going to make it worse - it will make it better. Just read the stats the John Lott has put together.

The friction of classes won't lead to shoot outs with CCW, it will lead to people being better people.
