Default Howdy all from Georgia.. Considering a move to IL

Howdy.... Just an old southern boy checking in...
As the title says.. I'm considering a job offer up in Itasca... I'm starting to wonder how silly this would be.... The offers good, but wow the differences between here and now there on gun laws makes a slow thinker like me take a pause..

One big reason I'm considering the move is the wife is from Northern Indiana... Would it be feasible to live over in Indiana and make the commute everyday?.. I live outside atlanta now so I know you traffic...
My wife and I both conceal carry daily.. And shoot weekly (rifle and handgun)... If I had property, say 10 acres, in IL, is shooting there a decent possibility? We're not fond of indoor ranges.

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

I was born and raised in Georgia. There is no job what so ever that could get me to move from Georgia to Illinois!! But I do now live in South Carolina.

Do you hunt? May be a bit different in IL compared to GA. Many areas are shotgun only. Winters are worse.

Look at tax rates as well, as far as sales tax, property tax, and income tax compared to GA. REtirement wage taxes. Property costs, (though around ATL it can be kind of high).

Just things to look at.

Screw IL. Indiana is WAY more gun friendly.

Thanks for the input.. If the wife wasn't from Northern Indiana, this wouldn't be a consideration.... But happy wife means more gun budget for me with no complaints :-)

I'm seriously considering living in Indiana and putting up with the drive of I take this job.. I have a meet n greet / interview on Friday.. It would be a 50K bump to start

it would be very hard for me to make the move from a gun friendly state to one that had a record of less than friendly atmosphere towards guns and gun owners. and to even consider making the move, it would have to have a huge amount of compensation to even give it a thought and have some sort of compensation for making the move and all the headaches and stress from moving from one state to another.

I lived in fairly gun friendly WI for 5 years, two day wait on handgun purchases, 9 day firearm deer season. I took a cut in total compensation to move to GA.

Live in IA, IN, MO or WI, maybe. Live in IL, never.

Be an IN resident and collect the IL paycheck.

I am from NW Indiana originally and my family is from South of Chicago...money is nice especially when you are building your career. Don't know your age or career position, but most people peak out in their 40's...it is at this time, in my case, that the gold lost its glitter. By that I mean, I was doing well, managed my finances well, kids growing up and there were things that became suddenly more important...of course, my previous professional journey allowed me the luxury of choices.

For me, I am at a point in life where location is VERY important and with a company I really want to finish my career with. Illinois sucks in terms of gun laws, regulations/personal freedom, and if you are near a metropolitan center like Chicago, you will be heavily inundated by leftist, socialist philosophy....how important is that to you?

Indiana is better from personal rights/personal freedom perspective but there is a practical limit on how much time you want to commit to your commute....I am speaking from experience there.

You may have a big decision in front of you soon! This I know from the past five years....you can move where you want to in this nation and you can do what you want too...it takes perseverance and tenacity. Helps to have goals...if you did and this fits, then you probably already know the answer to the offer should you get one.
