Central IL Public Hunting
the land I've hunted on since childhood was sold to some guy from Chicago, who now refuses to allow any of the 6 of us who have hunted this land all our lives to hunt there. I've exhausted just about every option except public land.. I'be never done it before as I imagine its crowded. does anyone have experience at any of the public areas around here? Kickapoo, walnut point, fox ridge, etc? I didn't even bother to get deer tags this year BC of this problem, but would still like to do some small game hunting.

Try another state. Gunowners are treated worse than sex offenders in the peopls republic of Illinoisistan

No experience but it shouldn't be too busy except during deer season. A lot of people only deer hunt. What is the guy from Chicago doing with he land?
Might want to start looking for a piece of your own. That's what I did a few years ago and now nobody can tell me I can't hunt.

He built a summer house in one spot and as far as i know the rest is just going untouched.
If i could afford to buy my own land i would. I'm pretty young, somewhat newly married, with a 19 month old son. And my wife is in her last semester of nursing school. Money's pretty tight lol

I hear you on the finances. Been there done that.
I got a chance to buy my 18 acres in spring 2008. After years of relying on others generosity for a place to hunt it is definately nice to have my own. The biggest problem in Central Illinois for land right now is that the farmers and timber owners have figured out that even if they don't hunt the property, someone will pay them for the right to do so. It is getting to be almost impossible to find a farmer that will let a person on their property to hunt for free.
The amounts people are getting for limited hunting rights to a property is pretty unbelievable. Keep your eyes open and your ear to the ground. Something might open up for you. Worst case, get out to the public land and see how it goes.

I hunted Harry babe Woodyard for a long time... Enjoyed it very much and, unless it's shotgun season... It's not crowded at all
I bow hunt only so I can only comment in that regard
