You get used to it after a few weeks, and I actually looked forward to the quiet time to listen to music, talking books, language tapes, etc.
A 20 to 30 mile commute in TN is not the same as in Northern Illinois. Here we have 2 seasons, snowy slipery winter and construction season, both will effect your travel time big time.

If you move to Hampshire, let me know. I'm about 8 miles from there.

I understand; we lived downstate a bit (Pekin), but was pretty bad there as well. My 30 mile commute here in TN took 50 minutes to an hour every trip.
Made a long day, but the alternative was to live closer to NASHVILLE, and there is NO WAY I would ever do that!

I see it as a decision regarding how you want to spend your life. You can live in a crappy location so that work is convenient, or you can live where you WANT to live, and just make it work for the job.

I sure will! So now I have to ask, what do you think about gun laws in your area? Is it some place you'd recommend?

Well, I live a bit west of Hampshire. I am okay with the gun laws here but they aren't the best, that's for sure. You must get a Firearms Owner's Identification Card (FOID) to own guns in Illinois. Just this year we can test so we can carry concealed. I just haven't pursued it yet. It's a little pricey but I'm going to do it no matter what.

Illinois, in general, is not known for it's 'user friendly' gun laws. I have guns and I do go to a range on occasion. I live in a small farming community and EVERYBODY here has at least a shotgun. The closer you get to Chicago, the less likely anyone is to own guns. If you HAVE to live in Illinois, I guess here is pretty good. But the Southern half if Illinois is better.

Again, the further you get from Chicago, the better it is.

Crook county er I mean Cook County is one of the worst counties for gun owners in IL.

I'm in Lake County - way better!! Just stay away from the stupidity that is Chicago.

Think about living on the border in Wisconsin.
