Yes, and I specifically want a k31 myself.
Can they be converted to easier to find American calibers? I'm thinking it would be an amazing platform for the .308 if it's not too much work. I don't know how it compares to the dimensions of the original chambering.

Trip, here's a link to the 7.5x55 round it was chambered in.

So the .308 is pretty much equivalent to 7.62X51, right?

Doesn't seem like it would work without a major overhaul. More than I'd be willing to do.

... you regularly go to 5-10 different stores in one day in search of ammo and magazines. And you do this every weekend.

Not sure what it could be chambered to. I'd recommend choosing a cartridge that has a similar (as close as possible) case head diameter as the old cartridge. That way, the bolt doesn't have to be changed.

These measurements are from Wikipedia, but I think they are right. (I'd double check though)

7.5X55mm

Rim diameter - .498
Bullet diameter - .306

.308

Rim diameter - .4728
Bullet diameter - .308

It looks like it MIGHT work with .308, if the extractor grabs the cartridge ok. (K31s aren't known for their strong extractors/ejectors).

You would probably have to change the barrel. As I said before, the bolt may not have to be modified, but that's not guaranteed. I'm not sure if .308 would work in that mag.

You could reload for it, or you could do what I would do if I wanted something different. Have it chambered for a wildcat. Of course, you would have to reload for that too.

Plenty of ammo out there to make swiss cheese of a target. Sportsmans guide had surplus recently, and its still made new in Europe. Imo, keep it original, or buy a cheap .308

If you purchase a rifle stock you like,

and you don't currently have a rifle

to install it on. Don't lie, I'm not the

ONLY one.

You know you're a gun nut if . . .

The upcoming visit from the relatives just started to sound better, 'cause they both picked up AR's on the RV trip here.

My parents and grandma are coming this weekend. Usually means range time when we get together, but I'm also working and we have a first birthday party for my twin nieces.
