Default WV Snake Handling Pastor Dead Of Snake Bite

The pastor of a WV snake handling church died from a rattlesnake bite while holding an outdoor service. Theres a message here: "Lay down with dogs and get fleas:" Lay down with timber rattlers and get bit.

A "serpent-handling" West Virginia pastor died after his rattlesnake bit him during a church ritual, just as the man had apparently watched a snake kill his father years before.

Pentecostal pastor Mark Wolford, 44, hosted an outdoor service at the Panther Wildlife Management Area in West Virginia Sunday, which he touted on his Facebook page prior to the event.

"I am looking for a great time this Sunday," Wolford wrote May 22, according to the Washington Post. "It is going to be a homecoming like the old days. Good 'ole raised in the holler or mountain ridge running, Holy Ghost-filled speaking-in-tongues sign believers."

Robin Vanover, Wolford's sister, told the Washington Post that 30 minutes into the outdoor service, Wolford passed around a poisonous timber rattlesnake, which eventually bit him.

"He laid it on the ground," Vanover said in the interview, "and he sat down next to the snake, and it bit him on the thigh."

Who would think that in 2012 this type of worshipping is still going on?
Well, I guess this snake in the Garden of Eden had enough. R.I.P. Pastor.

Every profession has its hazards.

Professing to be God's Snake Charmer only works as long as the snakes agree.

Guess this rattler was having a bad day.

I often have to laugh when I see Pastor Melissa Scott on tv carrying on in her father's stead.

At least she is smart enough to stay away from snakes.

Wow. Never saw that coming. Who would have thought the snake might have a problem with that sort of thing?
First aid?
Vanover said Wolford was then transported to a family member's home in Bluefield about 80 miles away to recover. But as the situation worsened, he was taken to a hospital where he later died.
80 miles to someone's house? WTF?

Would negligent homicide charges be worth looking into?

Guess the pastor was not a true believer?

Read about a lady that had a pet rattler. It lived under her front porch & whenever she'd go out to sit & rock in her rocking chair, the snake would come up on the porch with her. She'd reach down & lift him up onto her lap & rock him.
