Default Would you ever do this?

Lets assume you are the gun shop employee in this one.....

I went into a local gun shop the other day and one of the guys I kind of know was wearing a compact 1911 OC. I saw it had some nice mahogany grips and asked if I could see it.

A couple of things happened I am a little on edge about. He says, "Sure." He draws the weapon and hands it to me with the muzzle pointed straight at my junk. I stepped off and took the gun just as another shop employee who was behind me and drew my attention to him. With my back to the owner of the gun, I checked the chamber, but there was NO WAY he could have seen me. I saw the mag was loaded but the chamber was clear.

I drew the gun up and he told me, "Pull the trigger I just bought (some whiz bang) trigger." So I did knowing it was clear. Just about the time the sear released he screams "bang!" and falls over laughing.

I have some major problems with this.

1. Open carry unloaded.
2. Handing a gun to someone without checking it is clear
3. telling someone to pull the trigger on a gun that you did not check and did not see the other person check.
4. Handing someone a gun with a loaded mag.
5. Pointing the gun at my DAMN JUNK.
6. Making a joke out of what could have been a really bad situation.

Okay would any of you done the same thing he did? Keep in mind I know this guy, but it is a customer dealer relationship.

Darwin Award candidate for sure.

I know that was what was going through my head. And the main reason I posted it. To me it's a little worse only because this is a gun the guy was carrying, not one in the display and this was a gun shop not a pawn shop.

CA357,
he is definitely nominated.

Sounds like another DA with poor fun store etiquette.

Glad your junk is OK.

I would hazard a guess that you felt very uncomfortable as he handed you the weapon. Knowing you were a LEO, I'm sure you felt like telling him what he was doing was wrong but there was that business/client relationship involved. Not to be a Monday morning QB, trying not to hurt his feelings, I would have said in a joking tone "hey, take the mag out and open the slide, make sure it's not loaded". Saying it that way wouldn't put the employee on edge.

Now saying that, after what happened I would have told him privately that anytime he hands a weapon to someone, take the mag out and open the slide, accidents do happen. And as a final note, let him know that others have been sent to the hospital for less reasons than yelling "bang"

How long has this employee been at the shop? Would it harm anything to chat with the owner?
