Are we looking at inches or centimeters?

(I do have my european wife convinced that 6 centimeters is the same as 6 inches)

Those are the jaws out of a brace(like in brace & bit).

please just look closer.
the edge closest to me would require me to have the 12" side in front.
i usually put the item on top of the ruler.
but when i need lighting, i have to move it while i hold the camera.
