another weird vise (press). almost looks like a special tool for brakes or rotors or bearings?

eatmydust 05-06-2013 10:45 PM

boski - it looks like a polar bear in a snow storm!

Actually, now it looks like a I-beam clamp or hanger.

bobski 05-06-2013 11:01 PM

what does an i beam clamp do?

Birddogyz 05-06-2013 11:10 PM

Looks like an old ball joint remover.

danf_fl 05-06-2013 11:25 PM

Or, with correct collars, a tool to make flange ends.

bobski 05-07-2013 01:41 AM

ball joint sounds right.
anyone got a pic of it in use?

I think it is a riveter. Used for hollow rivets. Kinda hard to see the end of the ram but I'm pretty sure that's it.
Does the end look like this---

bobski 05-07-2013 12:17 PM

so then the bottom is designed to take collets of differing sizes

gr8oldguy 05-07-2013 02:02 PM

Looks like a rivet setter or an alien ray gun disguised as some kind of screw thing.

c3shooter 05-07-2013 03:51 PM

Open the screw, slip over a V belt pulley, with the shaft passing through the slots at the left. Turn screw, screw pushes on the shaft, pushing the shaft out of pulley.
