Glass is better to keep air out. Plastic is more porous. I think that's the reason. That's what we used when makin beer. Glass carboys instead of plastic buckets.

what happens when you dont remove enough juice before starting te wine.. one carboy has foamed over and filled the topper. lol

Good for you! Making wine really is easy and the yield and results can be truly outstanding.

I have a carboy full of mead (with peach slices - just trying something different) "cooking" now. I need to rack it and maybe filter it (not sure if bentonite will clear this up) and bottle it in a month or so.

You can also buy wine kits and probably raw must online. Yield is 5 gallons usually, and the results can be awfully good. If you grow your own grapes, even better - just get a press!

my uncle was given a press a few years ago but we have yet to use it. kinda funny he just started 2 5g carboys of mead sunday night.. very curious about the peach thing. did you just place peach slices into it at the beginning or what. please let me know how it turns out.

Just added peach slices at the beginning of fermentation. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I've made a bunch of batches of mead with different honey. They're all different and all good.
