I like the 10/22 idea. Buy a stock one, the slowly dress it up into a scary black assault rifle.

a marriage is an equal partnership and it should not be about bribery or her letting you get an AR.

in my marriage, my wife doesn't let me do anything or let me buy anything. i'm an adult and capable of making adult decisions. nor do i let my wife do anything or let her buy anything, as she's an adult and my partner in this marriage. any major purchases we discuss our best options and the costs. we discuss just about everything and do what is the best interests of both of us.

IMO, no one partner should be controlling by letting the other do something or buy something. that's what you do with children, but not adults.

excellent points axxe, pretty much what i was going to say.

if your wife wants to spend $100 on a purse or pair of shoes, does she give you $100 to spend on whatever you want?

in our marriage, my wife and i contribute for everything equally and whatever is left over is ours to do whatever we want with. i have a gun safe that they are all kept in so my guns arent just laying around the house. she understands that i have them to protect us as well as for hunting, target shooting and collecting.

good luck

Do all indoor ranges look alike (I've only been to one)? I swear I was just at that range yesterday and IIRC, they have a no photography rule, unless Sean Hannity is in the House!

Yes, almost all indoor ranges look alike.

Graniteman, tell your wife an AR-15 "assault rifle" is no more or less deadly than that LCP you have. And that's the truth.

AR is one of my favs! In our house our problem is we both want more guns, just patiently waiting and saving for our next buy. I am not the strongest person out there and I am not a fan of recoil. I was a little skeptical because to the hubby "no recoil" is a little different of my definition of no recoil. I treid it and now I am the AR hog when we go out shooting!

Most people are "afraid" of them because they don't know anything about them or have ever shot one. Maybe start with the AR22 (Mossberg Plinkster is fun and less than 300.00) and she will see how much FUN it is!

Best of luck!

..Thank you Mam!! I think her real issue (..other than repeating & believing the mass media tagline paranoia) may be a safety and securing issue. Do you have a way of securing the weapon & ammo when not in use or not at home? Even a trigger lock and padlocked ammo can are better than nothing... and may reassure her... even if she's still not thrilled with the idea (yet). I agree with some of the others here though... Involve her in the build/purchase/use of it and avoid the arguements & head-butting. Just be calm & logical.

My wife wants nothing to do with firearms (even though she does know how to operate one...I've at least insisted on that)... BUT, she loves me & trust my judgement (I've lived "none-ya" years on this Earth & haven't had a firearms realted incident yet) and knows our son will be raised exactly the way I was to insure that legacy is passed on.

Don't give up buddy... either on your firearm desires OR the marriage. They're both equally worth it in the long run..

She said no cause she doesn't want an assault rifle in the house. How can I convince her to let me get one?
It is NOT an assault rifle, it is a Modern Sport Rifle with great flexibility and utility. The lame stream media have tainted the rifle with unfounded gore and violence. She needs to read the recent report from The Bureau of Statistics regarding gun violence (covers about last 20+ years). Rifles of ALL kinds make up far less than 1% of gun violence. Their use seems to be the "choice" of mentally unstable folks. Over the period covered by the report, gun violence has actually decreased by 39%. An interesting read - really exposes the anti-people's portrayal of guns and violence.

The dollar for dollar thing is really common among us! I used to do it until I got my wife to the range. She now love target shooting and she has a carry permit. (she's way better a shot than I am now!!)
