Most places, you pay one way or another. Some places can draw enough from tourism to defer extra taxing. More rural places may lack the need for major infrastucture dollars...that could mean those who live there "miss out" on certain comforts those dollars provide, while others are just as happy without such things.

Oregon has more taxes than most, but then also no sales tax. There are certainly more affordable places to live, but where Oregon really fails is in it's taxing of businesses. State codes are pretty well ruled by the more populated liberal north...not a business-friendly environment, and thus, not such a great economic outlook down the road.

Washington/Oregon is a near wash. They just have differing methods of separating you from your money. Considering costs of living, property tax, sales tax (Wash has it), etc.

My brother (Naval pilot) lived on Widbey Island for a few years, so I've made plenty of trips back and forth between the two. Cool area BTW, the San Juan Islands.

Washington and Oregon were closed down years ago. California now extends all the way to Canada.

There's a strong element of truth in that statement.

Most of the densely populated areas are extremely Leftist. Most of the medium sized cities and rural areas are not...but they ultimately fall subject to a great deal of the populous vote.
