[QUOTE="downsouth"]My sheperd is six years old now, they typically live 8-12 years. I have often wondered about getting another type of dog when time comes, maybe a Rottwieller. After reading this story it made me think about how loyal "Otto" is. There just is nothing he wants more than to be with me and

As a kid we had no pets. My cousin had two German Shepherds in a row. Blitzes & Bullit. Roy Rogers was popular on TV. Big, black & tan, smart. I loved them so.
As an adult I have had dogs, cats, horses, and kids. I have shoveled s--t for them all, and it was so worth it. Now I have a Brittany, and love her too, which is returned ten times over.
Don't care much for spiders and snakes, or ferrets. But, G Dm it if you take care of it, love it. Have it. It improves the quality of life.
I don't know, but I think people who dis other pets must be Glock owners. LOL

I have had three, one died as a puppy, and two that I had for years. One had to be put down at almost 14 and one had cancer and was around 10.

The first I got as a 12 year old. Until I was 16 she went everywhere I went. She was friendly, but would not allow someone to screw with me. The second I got from the pound at 29. Not as bright as the first, but a great dog.

Now I live in Florida with a lot 115' x 85' which is not big enough for a German Shepard. I have two Pomeranians, which are like mini shepards. I would still kill for enough ground to have another shepard.

I grew up around shepards. we had one extremely phenomenal dog, and my parents actually changed breeds after he passed. Fast forward, my first dog as an adult, was a little drop kick dog papillon. By far, one of the smartest breeds I've ever encountered, and they will pick one member of the family as their master. The other members of the household are family

My Pitbull is a pretty loyal animal. And she has personality to boot.
