Many good reasons here, and I share most of them. As a youngster, I ate pretty good as a result of hunting, and lots of good memories destroying tin cans. The military speaks for itself. Then 18 years as a toolmaker helped me appreciate the engineering, precision, and quality of firearms. Range time immerses me in calm and complete control. (my own range) The personal protection aspect pretty much speaks for itself. Like others, the ability to send that little projectile, great distances, with great accuracy, is nothing short of satisfying... especially after assembling that particular round myself.

Guns are good stuff, all the way around.

Jay said it better than I could. I would only ad that I'm a money grubb'in old fart and for the average guy or gal, firearms can not only be a very cheap, fun hobby, but also a pretty good long term minor investment strategy.

As long as we keep the govt. out of it, firearms will most certainly go up in value over the long haul. If you have an interest in weapons, its kinda neat. You spend the money, get to play with them, fondle them and after awhile if you bought them right, they are worth more than you paid. Whats not to like?? Ken

Not that I would ever want this to happen but if the government got involved in the right way we might have some very rich people on this board. Lets say they banned new sales of semi-auto weapons. Look at the price of an M-16 today because of supply/demand. Some of us could become very wealthy from that.

If the government gets involved in the right way, my firearms would be more valuable as weapons, rather than as investments. Just sayin'

'Cause i can't get lawn darts anymore, and i get too hammered when i go to the bar to play regular darts.

'Cause i have had one since before i learned to ride a bicycle.

'Cause i can't catch squirrels without one, well not often.

Seriously though, for protection and the fun/challenge of target practice. They are also appealing in their mechanical nature.
