I always carry a leatherman wave on my belt and usually a folding knife about 3" long in my front pocket. I have had similar reactions before, some even involved "police investigation". See my thread I wrote awhile back and get a good laugh at my story.

I lost one to the TSA a couple of years ago, I didn't check the pockets of the jeans I threw into my carry-on. He really did not see the humor when I told him it was ok I would get it back next week when they sold it on e-bay, which is where I got it in the first place.
I will throw it in the trash before I let those turds have it

I carry a knife as a tool for work and random small tasks. I originally started carrying because i used to own a very unsteady Blazer and i wanted to be able to cut the belt in case it rolled over. I carry a Kershaw 1580

a new one i picked up today that caught my eye. a Robert Klaas/Kissing Crane Brown Mule, sodbuster designed styled knife. has a Soligen steel blade, with brass liners and pins, with rosewood grips and is made in Italy. i am going to try it out as an everday work knife as the sodbuster design is one of my favorites.

You mean there are people who don't? That is unbelievable!

I have Kershaw 3650 and a Frost Trapper- They are tools, not weapons. pics are off the interweb.

I carry a CRKT MY TIGHE. While at work I am not allowed to carry my pistol so it is all I have with me if I get called out to fix a truck on the side of the road at 2 in the morning. I also use it as a wire cutter/stripper, scraper, screwdriver and occasionally a hammer. My knife has many uses.

once people realize i carry a pocket knife....i'm amazed at how often i am asked to use it in some manner...

and when its x-mas with the families/kids...the pocket knife never returns to the pocket, that baby is steady opening packages and battery compartments.

just really handy to have it around..i hate it when i leave it at home...almost as bad as leaving the wallet.

EDIT: here is mine, except the bone on mine is a bit lighter.

My father recently was flying somewhere and forgot to put his Leatherman Wave 1st gen in his checked baggage. TSA said he could mail it back to himself for like $5. He did that but never expected to see it again because he said that they just took it with a piece of paper with his name and address and dropped it in a plastic bag and threw it in a box. Well, 3 weeks later it showed up in the mail.
