i have this holster given to me marked... hunter #55M.
what gun would go in it?

from what i gatheed, it appears to be a right hand belt mount. it is a break away? no straps and open on the entire back. pics coming.

Revolver like Colt SAA with 4 3/4" barrel (or similar) 55L
Autos like Duramatic, SuperMatic 4 1/2" (or similar) 55M

Star model B, S&W 39 can also use 55M

There is no listing for a 55S

well well. 2 year later and i got a perfect answer! thanks!
chart shows 1911a1 govt 5" too. most likley what it went with.

I've got a Hunter box from 1974 that lists about a dozen or so more models.

That's what I was thinking as well. I'll have to check the number on it, but one of my 1911 A1s came with one that looked a lot like that one.

I had one just like that. I always thought of it as a cross draw given the construction
