So I just glanced through the entire thread again to refresh my memory of the states everyone mentioned.

A couple added some good choices that I didn't put in the poll. I appreciate you guys broadening my horizons.

I noticed not a single person said Alabama. I'm curious what people's opinions are on Alabama. There are several reasons I'm considering it at this minute in time. Not the least of which is you're allowed to carry guns in schools: "no person shall knowingly with intent to do bodily harm carry or possess a deadly weapon on the premises of a public school" So as long as I don't intend to do bodily harm on anyone, I can have a gun in the school. Just not at sporting events, still.

Has anyone ever lived in Alabama? What's it like?

Dude, move to Texas! Great people and a pretty good economy. Texas was the 14th largest economy in the the world in 2009 according to GDP. We can also sustain ourselves, except for maybe drinking water. Another thing, when the U.S. goes (let's be honest, even Rome fell), we may be one of the few states still standing among the rubble. Not to talk like a pessimist or one who wants that to happen (I really hope the U.S. will live for a long time, WITH freedom for the people) but history has already predicted the fall of America.

Don't discount the hill country in TX. I vacationed in Kerrville several times. Kind of a laid back community.

IF I decide to move, and my roots are very deep in MI, NC is first on my list to look. Know a couple of people that have moved there and just absolutely love the state. One friend is in the hills on a large piece of property and he loves it.
