1963 Ponticac Tempest. Shifter on the dash. My dad had to push me up the hills with his car to get it home. Bought in 1980. Sold it around 6 months later for $175.
Upgraded to a 1976 Ford mustang for $600.00

!972 Plymouth Duster had a 318 with a factory 3 speed shifter on the floor. I liked the car but I needed a truck more. I traded the duster for a 1968 Chevy 1 ton dually with a 427 small block and 5 speed on the floor. First gear was geared so low I had to shift as soon as the truck was rolling. That truck could pull a house off the blocks.

Nice! My first was almost a 64 Tempest, 3 on the tree IIRC, but my Mom had some silly requirements that it had to have floorboards...sheesh!

when i was in high school, one of my friends older brother had a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner he was trying to sell. i had the money, but my father had an issue with the 440 V-8 and the two four barrels on a tunnel ram sticking through the hood for some reason.

to this day i still don't understand why he wouldn't let me buy that car!

I'm sure he was worried you'd spend too much money on gas...

88 F150, 302 with a 5 speed, true duals with flow masters. That truck was indestructible and it got me into and out of more trouble than I wanna think about. In because I loved the way it sounded when I'd drop a gear and floor it, and out of trouble cause if I could hit a gravel road there wasn't a cop around that could keep up.

i guess i could have used the arguement that because it had a four speed manual, it would get better fuel mileage than an automatic!

My first car when I was 16 was a 1967 Dodge Cornet 500; had to sell it when I went off to college (I went to VMI for my first year, and couldn't have a car there; the next summer I bought a 1962 MGA 1600 Mk II, the last of the MGA's.
