Anybody seen Rustler's Rhapsody? Great western comedy. Haven't seen it mentioned yet.
As to a favorite? Too many excellent movies to have one.

I like Sam E in movies, more than I should, because frankly, he has quite a few marginal performances in b level movies. The one where he is a forest ranger and the cook plays cards is a good example. Pretty sure millions of dollars of gross revenue was never an issue with that one, but I watched it, and tried to enjoy it.
Back to the Sam E version of the quick and the dead, the female roll was so strong and sexy, I about did not even notice Sam E in the movie!

my favorite western series is probably got to be The Rifleman. loved watching him shoot that rifle!

I was a pawnbroker when that series played as a rerun on Saturday afternoon. After about a year of watching the show, I could not take it anymore, and handed a 30-30 to a machine shop owner friend of mine. He said, what do you want me to do with this, and I told him to fix it, because it is broken. He gave it back to me saying it worked perfect. I told him to watch tv on Saturday afternoon and he would know what I mean.
I still have that Rifleman copy, and I will never sell it.

One that I have not seen since I was a kid:
River of No Return
Very good western IIRC. I believe Robert Mitchum and Maralyn Monroe were in it.

Acting the part.......
It was said that no one during the filming of the searchers with John Wayne could get close to him, his demeanor was that of the part he played. Just ask the late Mr. Fudderman.........

The Ranger the Cook and the Hole in the Sky. Sam Elliott movie. This was about the early life of Norman McClean. McClean a famous American author with roots in the real west.
McClean wrote also "A River Runs Through It". I think for most Westerners this is a real western movie.
