"Whore" sounds rough to the modern "PC" ear of today. In the days of the Frontier west it was regarded as a needed business. This Frontier enterprise holds on in Nevada to this day.
The legal "Cat Houses" and Chicken Ranches and Hog Farms held out in Wyoming and S.D. until the early 1980s. They were replaced by Truck Stop "Lot Lizards" and the world moves on.

Re reading this post I see so many movies and tv shows I forgot about.
The 1/2 hour Gunsmoke,
The late great James Arness had coffee with a friend of mine up in Los Banos.
I list John Wayne as one of my favorites,
The Searchers, True Grit, Stagecoach, his Cav. films. And more I cant recall,
And he always had great supporting cast actors.
But to be honest,
some of his movies, are to me, unwatchable.

And Ben Johnson, Great.

Yep. I like western history. They were apart of our great nations western expansion. I like Larry McMurtrys deep understanding of the Western movement.
They were not really jokes. The young men and women of post Civil War America were survivors. They did not depend on hand outs or ask to be paid for not working. Humm! paid to not work? Modern Whore?

How about The Man From Snowy River? Australian yes, but so is Quigley, both excellent westerns. And there are all of those Spaghetti Westerns too.
