Yep- military conditioning- it is a weapon, a piece, or a rifle. It is not a GUN unless it is a machinegun, shotgun, or howitzer!

See Full Metal Jacket for an explanation of what happens when you refer to a rifle as a gun.

After all these years, I doubt you will break the conditioning implanted in me by SFC Roop at Ft. Polk LA.

Another peeve i have is a person that thinks that they have nothing to learn from someone else, and they get bent out of shape whenever you try and give them advice about something.

I agree 150%. I am tired of yelling, "Hey...point that somewhere else!!! Try toward the targets!!!!"

I have only had one guy act weird when I told him I like guns... most people in the mountains are pretty cool with it.

My biggest pet peeves are:

1. People who do not point the gun in a safe direction.
2. Gun owners who do/say stupid things on TV and make everyone else look bad.
3. Anyone who acts superior to everyone else because he/she has fancier stuff.

I'll call your SF Roop and raise you a SSG Christensen at Ft. Benning GA.

20 years later and that guy still scares me.

Damn, this thread keeps growing every time I get the chance to look at it.
But I'm with you guys on a lot of the stuff, but guess I'll stick make a list of it.

1) guys who drink while at the range - I mean beer or other forms of alcohol and yes, I have seen this happen. But I guess when you go to a range that's outside and is more based on the people who use it, it's bound to of happened. (no real RSO)

2) the know it all, basically describes its self.

3) those who think any rifle bigger then a .22 that has a scope on it becomes a sniper rifle.

4) guys who feel that because they can get small groups at 100-200 yards, they can easily hit at 800+ yards.

Hahaha I have to give you that argument I suppose. Gunny is still a freighting man even 20+ years later, great movie though.
