Raphael La Tavola 2011 North Fork of Long Island Table Wine
La Tavola means “The Table” in Italian. This delightful white wine is made for everyday enjoyment, especially shared with friends over a good meal. It is made from the same red grapes used in our popular La Tavola red blend; shortly after the grapes were crushed the clear juice was removed from the skins. The Cabernet Franc [52%] and Cabernet Sauvignon [5%] provide lush flavors and balanced acidity, while Malbec [8%] and Merlot [35%] add pleasant notes of strawberry and raspberry.
2011 proved to be a very challenging vintage. We had every kind of weather thrown at us, including a hurricane, but I am happy to report that we have come out of it very well. When the grapes arrived on our crush pad they were in very good shape, yet had to be handled with extreme care to preserve the delicate flavors and colors. Now that the 2011 wines are evolving in the cellar, I am seeing some interesting things. Our white wines are of exceptional quality, the result of a cool, gentle fermentation. I am excited about these wines, as the growing season was truly one of the most unique.
