Sweet Tea became popular during the "Prohibition". Soft drinks and sweet tea were substitutes for adult beverages. The Southern Baptist carried it to the extreme.

I live about 10 miles away from Naps, Ca.

Unfortunate for gun owners, but amazing for wine lovers.
I'm sipping on a Pinot Noir from Napa Valley at the moment...
