Default What are you doing for Memorial Day?

What are you doing for Memorial Day? (a re-post from years ago)

That's a rhetorical question.

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action. From Wikipedia

To me, it is a day to give thanks to my Father (1919-1998) for his heroic service 1943-1945 and returned to permit me to experience the fruits of his service.

Thanks Dad. (I didn't say that enough.)

And it is equally important that we recognize those gallant souls that were not as fortunate as us who destiny has smiled upon.

This Memorial Day weighs heavy on me because of the forces at play which are hell-bent on changing this beloved country of mine! There seems to be a indifference rather than a celebration of those who have given the Ultimate Sacrifice.

They seem to be embarrassed and find the need to apologize for us enjoying our earned freedoms. This is because they would never have the mettle to dirty their hands and assist in the continuation of our American Heritage.

Guilt is a very powerful force!

“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” - Eric Arthur Blair (George Orwell)

This is a photo of G W Bush at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France on May 27, 2002. His Memorial Day visit was just eight short months after 9/11!

This is the same cemetery BHO refused to visit, as POTUS because he didn’t want to embarrass the Germans. Doing so, he slapped the face of every US Soldier ever to wear the uniform!

This is a scant few look at the hallowed ground we honor around this globe. The only territory we claim from those countries in which men in the US Uniform have fallen.

We have a monumental battle before us gentlemen, the taking back of our American Heritage.

We are up to the task, we have done it before and it will be done over and over again long into the future. It Must!

I am proud to be counted as one of you in this FTF Band of Brothers.

That’s what I’m doing for Memorial Day.

God Bless our country.

We Owe You A Debt Of Gretitude

I'm thinking of taking a motorcycle ride to the memorials in the area.

I am going to cry all day, like I do very night, for the loss of my friends and those who shared the pain of peace, liberty, and freedom.

This is a US cemetary in Luxemburg. I've been to it a couple of times.

I'm doing what I do every Memorial and Veterans day. If I run into a military member at a restaurant, I pick up the tab for their meal.
When I go home for the night, I will sit on the back porch and have a beer in honor of my brothers and sisters that didn't make it home.

I always reflect quietly inside, and while I'm not the religious type, I will thank them for giving the ultimate sacrifice for their country and hope that the country as a whole is worthy of what they have given.

I'll never forget.

I like to wait until the weekend after Memorial Day to head out into the mountains and start my first recon hike to check out buck populations. The roads are usually fairly busy on Memorial Day, so that is a good time to stay local and visit the nearby archery range. That's what I will do, on and after.

That's essentially true on all the big holidays, including July 4th and Labor Day as well. If you can, it's always better to wait until the weekend after to go somewhere.

As for my friends who never came back from Viet Nam, or came back in a box, I think about them all the time, and I don't need a national holiday to help me with that.
