What are you doing for Memorial Day?
What are you doing for Memorial Day?
That's a canebrake LOADED QUESTION!
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (on May 25 in 2009). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action. From Wikipedia
To me, it is a day to give thanks to my Father (1919-1998) for his heroic service 1943-1945 and returned to permit me to experience the fruits of his service.
To myself for carrying my own water and return safely to my family where my service and that of my Dad eliminated the need for my three sons to go to war. (None during their age cycle.)
And it is equally important that we recognize those gallant souls that were not as fortunate as us who destiny has smiled upon.
This Memorial Day weighs heavy on me because of the forces at play which is hell-bent on changing this beloved country of mine! There seems to be a disdain rather than a celebration of those who have given the Ultimate Sacrifice.
They (you know who they are) seem to be embarrassed, and find the need to apologize for us enjoying our earned freedoms. This is because they would never have the mettle to dirty their hands to assist in the continuation of our American Heritage.
Guilt is a very powerful force!
ďPeople sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.Ē - Eric Arthur Blair (George Orwell)
This is a photo of G W Bush at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France on May 27, 2002. His Memorial Day visit was just eight short months after 9/11!
The same cemetery BHO refused to visit, as POTUS because he didnít want to embarrass the Germans and doing so, slapped the face of every US Soldier ever to wear the uniform! (BASTARD!)

^ Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Philippines: US burials 16,636 WWII
^ North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial in Tunisia: US burials 2,841 WWII
^ Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial in England: US burials 3,812 WWII
^ Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France: US burials 9,387 D-Day WWII
This is a scant few look at the hallowed ground we honor around this globe. The only territory we claim from those countries in which men in the US Uniform have fallen.
We have a monumental battle before us gentlemen, the taking back of our American Heritage.
We are up to the task, we have done it before and it will be done over and over again long into the future. It Must!
I am proud to be counted as one of you in this FTF Band of Brothers.
And thatís what Iím doing for Memorial Day! God Bless our country and be safe out there!
Second picture got me unaware. You're an @$$.
Seriously, award worthy thread, people tend to forget.
I unfortunately will be working.
I'll be working because my employer sucks and doesn't respect the men and women who have served this great nation. Maybe I'll call in patriotic...
A beautiful post Cane, Thank you.
I'll be spending the weekend in the mountains. But the Stars and Stripes will be flying over my campsite. It always does. And a prayer of thanks will be given to all who have served.
A couple of my heros.
I have four members of my family in Arlington National, but this memorial day I will be in DC attending my sons graduation from college. I will still remember those who fought and died to make us free
I was just released from duty, and I won't be back until Tuesday.
One of the things I will do is I will visit my Grandfather's grave. He is a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He was Army, then moved over to the USAF when it was created in 1947.
My Grandfather was one of the privileged that walked form Normandy to Germany.
THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HUMBLY WEAR THE UNIFORM!!!
US MARINE CORPS
US AIR FORCE
US COAST GUARD
.......TO ALL MILITARY MEMBERS, REMEMBER YOUR FELLOW COMRADES IN ARMS THAT ARE IN HARM'S WAY AT THIS VERY MOMENT. INCLUDE THEM ALWAYS IN YOUR PRAYERS.
KEEP CHARGIN' FORWARD!!!!!!!
I will fly my U.S. and P.O.W. flags. I will not fly my Gadsden flag, although I possibly should.
One of the organizations I support is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. It maintains and archives the items that are left at the Wall in D.C. They also sponsor the two travelling Wall exhibits that tour the Country.
They also put on educational programs in schools to educate youth about the Vietnam war and our troops sacrifices.
On the fun side, my buddy and I and our gals will have dinner together on Sunday. We're still figuring that part out. But first, on Saturday morning, I'm going to the range with Garand and my M1 carbine.
I also just installed a red insert factory front sight on my GP160, so it will make the trip too.
God bless our troops living and dead, may He watch over our men and women in harms way right now and God bless America.
