Me neither. But in the past three months I have had one friend die from ALS, or Lou Gehrigs Disease (53 years old, left behind a wife and young teenage daughter), one friend die from a heart attack (47 years old, wife and two daughters) and another friend who I knew had a bad cancer but today I went shooting with him and he says he has 2 to 5 years. He is married with no kids. His wife is having a very hard time accepting it. The toughest part is that he and his wife are two of the most wonderful people anyone would ever want to know.

It is hard to think about from my perspective but when I talk to friends who have terminal illnesses I have a different perspective.

If you don't mind me asking, whay the heck would you want to be cryogenically frozen if you have no friends or family? That just seems strange to me. If they defrost you in a hundred years and you are resurrected what have you gained? More lonely life?

If I am in a casket at my funeral I want to stay dead.

Went to one. Kind of crazy, but understandable.

OK, if you are that 90 year old man then my hats off to you. It worked for J. Howard Marshall.

There is always that one necrophiliac eyeballing the corpse.
I am hoping the smoke would be black powder. If not that might explain the necro.

I don't want to leave any debt. Not even to the IRS.

Selfish, in my opinion.

The service and the words are not for you they are for the people who cared about you.

Yes, that is important. But if other people at the service say something that would hurt your wife and kids?

I was at a service a couple of years ago where the brother of the deceased, who died from "falling overboard" from a cruise ship off the Mexican coast and his body was found three days later by a guy on a Jet Ski 3 miles off the shoreline (yeah, explain that!) Anyhow, the brother went on and on about when he was in the Navy and how sharks would follow the ships and eat everything that was tossed overboard. It was really disturbing.

I've been pretty much alone my entire life. As a Marine brat, I was never in one place long enough to forge any real lifelong friendships. I'm an only child so being alone has been my way of life. My relatives are scattered all over the U.S. and I never had any "real" contact with any of them. I have no problems being alone. I'm alone, not lonely. I don't really go out and socialize. Never been into that sort of thing. If given a choice of going out and raising Hell or staying home, I'll choose the latter. As I've gotten older, I've found that the quiet life is more acceptable than being a "party boy."

Some people never understand that; it seems to depend on how they grew up (big family/small family, etc.). It takes all kinds.
