Default What is this world coming to ?

I was on my way home and came across two young twenty something years olds .
They were off the side of the road , flashers going and appeared broken down . As I approached them , I could see they had a flat tire . They were in a place where no cell phone connection , stranded ! I asked the to get the donut tire out and they had no idea of what I was talking about !

I opened there trunk , opened the panel and said that , donut , it'll get you into town or home , fifty miles or so anyhow .

I pulled out my heavy duty Jack , chocks , flare , long breaker bar with various sockets . I also carry a tourch wrench , you know how disc routers are . I five minutes , I had them on their way . He offered me money but I refused and said spend some time on You Tube , sheeeez .......help these kids Lord , they really need it .....

I wonder the same thing!
We are supposed to have this great educational system and spend billions on it?
But yet some of your youth as well as older people know so little it is appalling!
Not to mention a lot of school corporations have taken out Shop Classes and other Technical Classes. Some even Gym!
Some questions I have heard or experienced are:

I do not know how to change a tire (As you stated!)
How do I open my car hood?
How do I check my cars oil level?
Do I need to change Oil? When?
Oh! is my tire low on air? (Obviously)
How much air do I need in my tires? (It is on the tire and the vehicle door jam.)
It goes on and on. The other day Waters World was asking young and old people on the street. Do you think Martin Luther King will make a good (I believe) Congressman. I could not hardly believe my ears. Most stated things like Yes I do he is a good person and reputable for the job! GIVE ME A BREAK!
Intelligence NOT!
Then I was in Atlanta recently and a Radio Show was on. They were giving away Concert Tickets for the one who answered the question correctly.
The Question: What month of the year was named after Ceaser Augustus?
It took 6 people before one person answered with the correct answer. For us obviously it was August! But the 6 answers were every month other that August. I could not believe it! The 7th person advised AUGUST of course!
The Guys at the station were rolling in their seats with laughter during the contest. Then finally on the 7th answer advised. We have a genius on the line that is the CORRECT Answer.

My comment! And these people vote?

Schools and parents should teach the children what they need in the real world.
But instead the schools teach that it is ok to be gender neutral, and other liberal garbage.

Id say they were the product of this era, parents busey with work, raised by a grandmother or single mother, or just dweebs out for a drive.

Both of my daughters have experence changing the oil & filter, know what a dip stick is and how to read it, (just because the tip is wet does not mean its ok to drive), can inflate a tire, have helped me mount a tire on a rim, install the wheel back on the vehicle, have watched dear old dad use a tire plug patch before.
I did this because I dont want my children to be ignorant & helpless.
My kids know how to work on their bicycle, adjust the brakes, chain, seat, handlebars.

I look at it like this, Im not going to be around forever, You best learn from dad (single dad), the thought of my kids being like them boy's happend 12 years ago when they were small, you can try your best to show them the way, wither they follow it?
Its not just maintenance either, working, keeping house wither uour a guy or gal, how to balance a check book.
That plastic card can scoop out a hole of debt youd never be able to crawl out of.

The weak among us has always been there. I can remember people over 50 years ago that I have helped. long before "donut", tires there were men, women and the young who were helpless.
In an earlier time in history they would have been victims of Natural Selection. In today World they will be able to reproduce.

i have always thought that if a person drove a vehicle, they should at least have some sense of being able to fix minor things and to at least check simple things.

checking the oil, tires, fluid levels are simple things. very simple things. even things a child can learn at an early age.

changing a tire is not rocket science! you can drive a vehicle on a flat, to a place to where the tire can be changed safely.

it doesn't take a lot to check simple things to see they are in good working order without being a mechanic. checking that lights function as they should. checking wiper blades to see if they need to be replaced. checking the tires to see if they have enough tread or air in them.

now i understand that many vehicles are becoming more difficult to repair, and even some things like bulbs are more difficult to replace, but a person can still check to make sure they are functioning.

it's just the generation that we live in. and another sad fact, many high schools are trying to push more and more students into college. what about the general labor trades, or technical trades? we still need auto mechanics, plumbers, electricians, construction workers and many others to fix or repair things we need.

it's just a crying shame that many of the younger generation are not being taught things to make them able to do for themselves. sad.

I think it is more about city slickers (me) vs farmers.
My parents were farmers and if it broke you fixed it. You could not go 40 or more miles for the part.

Now I can't grow a weed but changing a tire is no challenge (except when it is over a 100 then you change it in an underpass).

I have a tire repair kit with a compressor in my car. I have a spare, but that's more for if I slash the side wall.

It's 10 times easier to patch a hole and fill the tire than it is to change the tire...

THIS is why I prep. Not because I'm a nutty preppeer who is convinced the myan calendar will erupt the super volcanos.
But because I know that one minor hiccup in the infrastructure will spell doom for the millions and millions of idiots who can't even change their own tire.

And a degree in Victorian era gender fluidity discussions shouldn't put food on your table.

Today we have automotive shops. Cars and trucks today can cost $50,000 or over 100,000 dollars. People who buy these expensive machines do not have the time to fix them.
My Grand Father was a Black Smith. People on the range could not leave the stock to "Drift". They had Farriers and Black Smiths shoe their mounts. Life is a trade off. How many people today provide their own incomes? Most work for some one else?
