What are the rules behind FTF sales/trades?

I was wondering what the laws behind FTF entail? I was selling an item and I was emailed and made a reasonable offer with a FTF sale instead of shipping to an FTF. I turned it down because I am not familiar with the FTF laws and I don't want to be held responsible for someone getting ahold of a weapon with my name behind the serial #. If anyone has any legitimate information or information source it would be appreciated.

State laws vary. I'd contact your local Sheriff's dept.

You need to check your local laws. In Ohio nothing is required for Two people to make a FTF transaction.

Ahhhh- what do they call those adult diapers???? Oh yeah- DEPENDS. :p

Depends on your STATE laws- and I don't know what state you are in.

FEDERAL law permits a face to face sale between 2 unlicensed residents of the same state ONLY. Unlicensed means does not hold a FFL. So if you lived in, say, Virginia, you could sell a rifle, shotgun, or pistol to another resident of VA- so long as you did not have cause to believe they were prohibited from owning a gun. But the guy that wants to drive down from Maryland? Nope. You CAN transfer it to a dealer, who could then transfer it to him, or to a FFL in his home state.
