Actually the original M16 issued to the military, I believe had a 1:14 twist
and marginally stablized the bullet. Therefore the bullet could tumble after
impact and did create a greater number of fatal wounds. When the twist
was increased to 1:12 the lethality of the weapons system was reduced.
At least this is the story and is plausible.
