Don't know if this was posted before,
Back at Fort Gordon Georgia, MP school,
We were told " the 45 will break your wrist'
You cant hit the side of a barn with a 45, if you were inside.
and the, one hit will knock you down.
I shot expert with the 45.
Still shoot one today.
Another one I like, why we dropped the 38 and went to the 45.
Because those people wrapped their arms.
The drugs had nothing to do with it.
Oh yes.
An acquaintance, a Viet Nam Vet.
likes to tell me why our Military would throw away the M-16 and use the AK-47,
Because the AK could shoot through trees.

A 45 will break your wrist if your wrist is shot with one.

You won't be able to hit the side of a barn from the inside if you shoot the roof instead, or have a squib.

One hit will knock you down, if you get shot in the head with it.

Who came up with those ridiculous myths?

To Texaswoodworker.
When I was in Basic Training at Fort Ord the permanent party cadre were always telling us stories
trying to scare us cruits.
M.P. school at Fort Gordon,
the same.
Another one we heard in basic was,
the M1 can break your shoulder.
One I did believe,
if you hold the M1 to your shoulder and fire the rifle grenade,
that could break your shoulder.
didn't want to try that.
Heard more stories,
but they are gone like most of my memories.

That if you shoot a deer with an AK-47, you won't have much deer left ( Washington Post newspaper ) .
That the AK-47 fires a round that would blow a deer to smithereens : Louisville Courier Journal .

Don't semi-automatics fire 3 shots with each pull of the trigger ? ( a guy who answered the phone at Sen. Barbara Mikulski's office .

That semi-automatics can be used to " mow people down " . ( News ) .

" High-tech killing machines " : Phrase used by LAPD Chief Darrel Gates to describe semi-automatics' nearly hundred-year-old technology .

That semi-automatics can be 'easily converted' to fully-automatic .

That Assault Rifles "were designed to lay down a curtain of fire in front of advancing troops" ( columnist George F. Will writing about semi-automatics )

That the Teflon on KTW bullets makes them slip through bulletproof vests ( ABC T.V. )

That the stock of the M-16 was made by the Mattel Toy Company and bore such a stamp .

That the 5.56 round was chosen for military use because it is intended to only wound the enemy and thereby tie up soldiers who must assist him .

That some troops in Vietnam didn't trust the little .22 caliber round ( 5.56 ) fired by the M-16 and chose the .45 pistol round in the Tommy Gun instead .

That Homeland Security is buying hollow-point pistol ammo and that this is shocking because such ammo is prohibited for military use .

That hollow-points are the same thing as Dum Dum bullets .

That Black Talon Ammo is " Cop Killer ammo " . ( T.V. News )

That Lee Harvey Oswald's rifle malfunctioned when the FBI tested it, that the Manlicher / Carcano was a " piece of s..t "( Jesse Ventura ) and " The worst military rifle ever " ( Jim Garrison character played by Kevin Costner in JFK ) . And that if you shot a deer with Oswald's rifle," it wouldn't have just killed the deer, it would have knocked the deer off its feet " ( News report 1964 )

That it is against international law to use a .50 cal machinegun to kill soldiers .

That Libya was trying to obtain Glocks because they are undetectable ( A country being unable to obtain a pistol on the international arms market ) . Source : News report .

That the Glock 17 got its designation because its magazine holds 17 rounds ( Lenny Magill and others ) . Psst ! It was because it was the 17th product the company made .

That the secret to 1911 army .45 accuracy is to 'come down on the target' as you fire to compensate for the great recoil . ( A vet interviewed on The Military Channel ) .

That a soldier was killed when his .45 went off as he twirled it wild west style on his trigger finger ( hint : The grip safety would likely have saved him ) .

That Sergeant York used a 1911 .45 to stop a squad bayonet charge dead in its tracks . ( multiple sources ) . A WWI history book gives a much more believable story in which York dropped 5 Germans with his Enfield which went empty and shot the sixth with his .45, which he had dangling at the ready from his little finger by its trigger guard in Condition Zero .

That criminals prefer cheap guns called " Saturday Night Specials ". ( News reports )

That some cheap guns blow up in your hand if you ever try to fire them . ( Newspaper editorial )

That cheap " Saturday Night Specials " are only useful for criminals .

That the 9mm is more powerful than the .38 Special .

That enemy soldiers in WWII listened for the ping of a M-1 Garand clip hitting the ground, knowing the American had run out of ammo if they heard that sound . Then, they'd advance and kill the helpless American . ( Of course the realities of war make this tactic impractical and improbable but there's more : Supposedly G.I.s would toss an empty clip to make a ping mimicking the sound of an empty clip being ejected, so as to induce the enemy to break cover . )

That if you shoot a burglar outside, you should drag him back into the house and a 'police officer' told the person to do that . And...that you should plant one of your kitchen knives in the dead man's hand .

I have the 938...Those things can really get on with the show. I've shot the 238, it's a pretty nice little pistol. THe only thing I believe the 9mm has over the 380 at SD ranges is ammo cost.
