What is funny about the M1 is 25 years ago they brought $100 milsurp. No one wanted a M1. I was going to buy one just to have it. My father told I didn't want the under powered POS. After I shot one a few times I thought he saved me $100. At the time one could buy a Model 70 Winchester for under $200. My uncle owned a Western Auto. I bought a .30/06 model 70 from him for $150. I got a 4x Tasco scope mounted on the model 70 and I was good to go.

Other than the high prices an M1 is bringing I still wouldn't hit a hog in the ass with a M1.

You are probably thinking about the M1 Carbine which is 30cal Carbine . I remember them for salefairly cheap in the mid 1980's, think I paid $150 for mine. They were "Blue Sky" Korean Imports
The Carbine did what they were designed to do, replace the 1911 45acp giving the behind the lines men alittle better firepower than the sidearm

The M1's in the above posts are the M1 Garand in 30.06, in no way are they underpowered
