Default What kind of den is this?

There is a lot of scat around the den and in the entrence. The scat is small ball-shaped pellets about pea size.

There are some small bones here and there, and there are 6 -8 of these dens all pointed toward each other in an area about 15' square.

Here's a picture of some of the scat.

There were only a couple tracks in the entrance of the den in the first picture. I couldn't find any other tacks around the area (except deer).

I don't know. I know we have in this area Coyotes, Badgers, Bob Cats, Mountain Lion, Fox, Skunk.

The scat (there's tons of it) makes me think rabbit, but the dens are obviously too big for rabbit. Unless, maybe rabbits moved in after coyotes moved out.

It may have been a rabbit that got dug out by a yote or something along that line. Diggin for dinner.

I'd be thinking badger but I'm not familiar with the shape of their poo. possibly a rabbit pooping around a badger hole?

I spent a few hours researching scat and tacks on the net last night. I couldn't find anything with scat like that except rabbit, but it seams a little small for rabbit to me. It's only pea size.

The tracks, I think, are bob cat, but that was probably just one checking out the den for critters, and it was old.

I'm leaning toward the idea that rabbits moved into an old coyote den, but I wouldn't think they would do that. I would think there would be enough odor to ward rabbits off.

Default My first post.

That is definetly rabbit poo. As for the tracks I am not sure with out seeing them first hand. The holes look pretty wide for a fox. I am inclined to think it was a badger digging for some kind of tasty treat. I used to run traps on my dads farm in Kansas and I did a lot of tracking to find good locations. Of course if they look to still be in use and you have a game camera you could always set that up to find out.
