Default What exactly is a Hi capacity magazine?

OK I keep hearing Ban hi cap mags.

What exactly is it?

A glock 19 has a standard mag capacity of 15 so a high capacity mag would be greater than that correct?

A 1911 has a capacity of 7 so a mag that holds more than that would be a hi capacity mag correct?

An AR-15 that comes with a 20 rd mag would need a 25 or 30 round mag to be high capacity correct?

A Remington 700 has a mag capacity of 3, 4, or 5. So anything over any of them would be high capacity correct?

How can a glock 19 have a hi capacity mag of 15 when that is the standard capacity of a factory mag unless you live in some commie state.

Term created by hoplophobes- people that fear machinery. I guess my Jeep with the 20 gallon gas tank must be a "high capacity" vehicle, huh? Ask Cinder what the fuel capacity is of the trucks she works on.

Magazine capacity is pretty much a false talking point that gun controllers bring up repeatedly. What was the magazine capacity of John Wilkes Booth's gun?

Maybe the same thing as a "high powered rifle"...as opposed to a "low powered" one???

Those terms go back to the early days of the transition from blackpowder to smokeless powder where you could easily blow yourself up trying to loadup a 45-70 or similar cartridge with 70 grains by volume of smokeless powder instead of 70 grains of powder by volume of blackpowder.

Back the a lot of cartridge names were the recipe to reload the thing. 45-70 literally means 45caliber projectile over 70 grains by volume blackpowder. Other cartridges with the exception of the 30-30 winchester have similar naming convention.

Hiwever today its a term national socialists like the brady bunch use to demonize inanimate objects

It's whatever a legislator says it is. There's no mathematical way to determine what a "high" amount is.

In New York, mags that hold more than 10 rounds are generally a no-no; anything more than 10 is "high-capacity".

That's the going standard for most places that still have a ban in place and the reason I just paid $600 for a pre-ban glock 20 in ma. I still get questions from people about carrying a sidearm with 15 rnds.
Well isn't that illegal?
I have a class A large capacity license.

Its a treasure maker for many! I sure wish I had stocked up on some of those abnormal capacity mags 20 years ago, I could retire! They would have a problem with my little Ithaca 22 single shot if they could and someday will. Dont buy old Cars, Stamps or collect coins, find old increased Capacity mags and sit on them a few years!

Seriously folks, High Capacity is the new buzz word for extreme and dangerous. Bloomy wants to ban high Capacity Soda sales; Barry Oh wants to ban High Capacity Vehicles; others question if the capacity of our homes is larger than it should be and if a hamburger holds more calories than determined reasonable, it needs a warning!

The talk about capacity is such a subjective thing. Nobody questions prosecution if someones BAC is off the charts, cops dont take your word that you just had one drink (it was a 72 OZ screwdriver). There is a measure that can quantify that. We have one for guns also and its not based on Ammo Capacity, its solely judged by actions and outcomes, does it really matter if you die from one properly placed shot or ten poorly aimed ones, your still dead?

Ask governor Arnold lol. When I got my XD she noticed the sticker that said not legal in California. Started freaking out saying I bought an illegal gun. I had to explain this is not California.
