First one is probably listening to the radio as the countdown to the deadline happened for Desert Storm, and listening to the reports live from the scene. We didn't have television so I listened to the car radio.
I was only about 9 years old, and it was the first time I had the feeling of witnessing history in the making.

Second one is watching the whole Port Arthur tragedy unfold, and realising at the age of 14 that this was going to mean the end of easy firearm ownership in Australia and that I would never legally own a semi-auto longarm here.

Then there was the time when I was getting a driving lesson and this stupid kid who was playing chicken with his mates by taking turns to ride their bikes out in front of cars and see who could get the closest, he got cocky and rode out maybe 15 feet in front of me while I was doing 25 mph. There was nothing I could do to avoid the collision, he never got past the middle of the car.
If I hadn't slowed down to 25 mph from the 40mph I had been doing before I saw them on the side of the road, he would have died.
If I had been driving the van that day he would have gone under instead of going over the top and living.
I doubt he will forget it either...he got a broken leg, arm, ribs, and a fractured skull.
I still get nervous when I see kids on a bike ten years down the track...

Biggest one would have to be the twin towers, I was watching a late night documentary about Mahommed Ali/Cassius Clay when it was interrupted by a special news bulletin.
I didn't sleep much that night, went to bed at about 5 am...
Then a month later when the other airliner crashed my immediate thought was "It's happening again".
Didn't sleep much that night either.

Seeing the Weasel **** John Howard who took away our guns get thrown out of office and know ing I did my bit to help was a good feeling...
I remember the first part of that night, but the last half is a little hazy...

First time I was glued to the news was when I was 10 and America bombed Libya.

There was a 2 hour program on History Channel this morning on Charlie Wilson and the Mujaheddin. It was pretty good.
